About Us
Our surroundings:
Our house is located just above the village on the sunny slope of Schattwald. Right next to the church, and thus only about 200 meters away, is the "Plitsch, Platsch" playground, which is particularly popular during the hotter months. In summer, the local band holds weekly summer concerts on the adjacent village square – the music can even be heard from the house. There are four restaurants in the village: Alpengasthof zur Post, s'Wannenjoch, Guthof, and La Soa. At the Lutz department store, you can find everything you need for your stay, from cheese and sausages to souvenirs and spirits to clothing and hygiene products. There is also a hairdresser in the immediate vicinity, an ATM in the tourist office in the village center, and right next door is the newly opened "Nana's Schatzkistl" gift shop. The nearest sports shop, "Müller," is in the neighboring community of Zöblen. There is also a bakery and a lovingly run farm shop (www.hofladen-tannheimertal.at). Anyone who wants to hone their skiing or biking skills, or even take up the sport in general, will find the Alpstern Ski and Bike School to be the ideal place to start. It is run by my sister and her husband. The practice slope for skiers is in Zöblen, while the practice area for cyclists, including a pump track, labyrinth, seesaws, a wave track, bridges, and much more, is located directly in Schattwald on my father's disused sawmill site. (www.alpstern.net) In the town of Tannheim, five kilometers away, there is also a general practitioner with a pharmacy, several restaurants, banks, another sports shop, an ice cream parlor, and cafés. The region also offers numerous great events, such as the Tannheimer Taler Cycling Marathon (www.rad-marathon.at), the Balloon Festival (www.ballonfestival-tannheimertal.de), and the Lake Run (www.seen-lauf.com). To get from A to B between the individual municipalities, you don't necessarily need a car – the hiking and ski bus will take you there just as comfortably. With the guest card you receive at the beginning of your stay, you can use this service free of charge.
